Sandi Toksvig is ‘seriously ill’ with pneumonia in Australian hospital: Star cancels tour as her team says priority is to get her home to the UK as soon ‘as she is well enough’

Sandi Toksvig has taken ill during her live tour and is currently in an Australian hospital after being diagnosed with bronchial pneumonia.

The Danish-British presenter, 64, has been forced to cancel the New Zealand leg of the tour due to the illness, with her team focusing on getting her home to the UK.

Sharing the news with fans via Twitter, her official account explained that the comedian is not yet well enough to travel or perform.

Writing to her 343K Twitter followers, Sandi’s team penned: ‘Due to illness, Sandi has cancelled the New Zealand leg of her tour. 

‘She has been admitted to hospital with bronchial pneumonia while still in Australia and is unable to travel & perform. Our main priority is getting her home to the UK as soon as she is well enough – Team Toksvig.’

Sandi took to the stage at Sydney’s State Theatre last Monday and was set to perform in Christchurch, New Zealand on Sunday before the illness.

While one guest from the Sydney show explained that the comedian had admitted to not feeling well during her last live appearance. 

Bronchopneumonia is a type of pneumonia which affects the bronchi in the lungs, with symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing, and fever.

The TV personality is known for presenting shows such as the Great British Bake Off and QI, and began her comedy tour on Saturday 12 November.

Arriving in Australia last month, Sandi explained that she was ‘thrilled’ to be Down Under for the tour.

‘Thanks so much for the warm welcome, Canberra. Thrilled to be here and looking forward to the rest of the tour! Who’s coming?’ she wrote.
