Only in Australia! 150 Santas ditch their sleighs for JET SKIS as they speed along a river in a bizarre world record attempt during blistering heatwave

  • Gold Coast residents festooned with bells and tinsel flocked to the Nerang River
  • The previous Guinness World Record for Santa’s on jet skis sat at 129 people
  • The event raised more than $10,000 for children in state care over Christmas

More than 100 Aussies donning red fleece and faux beards have broken the world record for the most Santas on jet skis.

Gold Coast residents festooned with bells and tinsel flocked to the shores of the Nerang River on Sunday morning to raise money for children living in state-run care facilities over Christmas.

To break the previous Guinness World Record of 129 Kris Kringles, organisers had to ensure the procession of 150 stayed close together with no significant gaps at a safe speed of six knots.

‘We paid to do it to give to a charity for children who don’t get presents because they’re in foster care or foster homes,’ she told 9News.

Jane Padden said she created the charity to show children without families that someone is thinking about them on Christmas.

‘Most of these youngsters have had a very troubled childhood and that is why they have found themselves with no loving family to take care of them,’ she told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

‘That really hurts especially at Christmas when people are coming together and sharing gifts to show they care.’

She said the money raised was ‘huge’ for the small charity and was thrilled with the results.
