Savage Garden’s Darren Hayes can’t contain his excitement after Harry Style’s revelation

‘I keep casually dropping dead and reincarnating!’ Savage Garden singer Darren Hayes can’t contain his excitement after hearing that Harry Styles grew up listening to the iconic Australian band

Savage Garden are known hits including Truly Madly Deeply and I Knew I Loved You.

And on Friday, lead singer Darren Hayes couldn’t contain his excitement after hearing that Harry Styles grew up listening to the band.

Darren, 47, tweeted how shocked he was and joked that he kept ‘dying and reincarnating’ at the news.

‘Harry Styles keeps casually mentioning that Savage Garden were one of the artist he grew up listening to,’ Darren’s tweet began.

‘I keep casually dropping dead and reincarnating as a ghost who also hears the news and drops dead again and etc etc etc because HARRY STYLES.’

The Savage Garden singer’s burst of joy comes after Harry cited the band as one of his musical influences.

How's that! Harry, 26, (pictured) told NPR podcast All Things Considered on Thursday that the sound of his new album, Fine Line, took inspiration from the music his parents where listening to as he was growing up - and included Savage Garden

Harry, 26, told NPR podcast All Things Considered on Thursday that the sound of his new album, Fine Line, took inspiration from the music his parents where listening to as he was growing up – and included Savage Garden.

‘For me it was the [Rolling] Stones, Beatles, Fleetwood [Mac], a lot of Queen, Elvis Presley, Shania Twain, Savage Garden, Norah Jones,’ Harry said.

‘That was kind of like the base of what my first experience with music was, and I feel like you can’t help but have a lot of references from what you grew up listening to [in your own music].’

Savage Garden, comprised of Darren and guitarist Daniel Jones, formed in 1993 and produced a slew of international number one hits like To the Moon and Back and The Animal Song.

But in 2001 the band called it quits. Darren continued with a solo career while Daniel went on to marry former Hi-5 star Kathleen De Leon.

It is unlikely the Savage Garden will ever reunite for fans as they duo ‘don’t have a friendship anymore’.

Daniel told 97.3’s Bianca, Mike and Bob last year: ‘I saw him (Darren) at my manager’s wedding in Los Angeles a couple of years ago.’

‘We just acknowledged each other. We said hello. We didn’t delve into the past. That’s how our relationship functions these days.’

‘We don’t have the most healthy, workable relationship anymore.’

The musician added: ‘I still love the guy dearly. We are just different people. There’s no wrongdoing. It’s just different directions and different people. We just don’t have a friendship any more or working relationship.’
