Selena Gomez chats with Kamala Harris about voting, Lupus

Selena Gomez shared her interview with vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who is running with Joe Biden, on Thursday.

The Rare singer had a Zoom chat with the Democrat as they talked about the importance of voting in the November 3 election. ‘I had the opportunity to speak with Senator @kamalaharris and we discussed several issues that matter,’ the ex of Justin Bieber said on Instagram.

The two also talked about Lupus: the former Disney star has it as does Kamala’s sister Maya.

During the interview, Selena said she was not so involved in the past.

‘When I was younger I was not very educated on the voting process the past four years I have experienced a lot and I think my vote counts… for someone who cares about the country, not voting is just not an option,’ began the Wolves singer.

Then came up Selena’s Lupus diagnosis.

Harris said that her sister Maya has Lupus too and their family has been dealing with this for ‘many many years.’ And she added that ‘women of color tend to get it.’

Kamala also said that she and Joe want to keep the Affordable Care act and she wants to work on mental health help.

Gomez said the country is being affected mentally by the trauma of the country.

‘And getting help is something that people need to get. It’s important to me,’ she said. Harris shared that she wants to work with Selena on improving mental health care.

The actress said young people are the ‘next wave’ to make a difference. ‘People need to use their voice through their vote,’ added Kamala.

On her Instagram caption, the Vogue cover girl said: ‘Here is a clip of us discussing the importance of voting and supporting people with mental health issues.

She has since voted: During the interview, Selena said she was not so involved in the past. ‘There is too much on the line this election for anyone to sit on the sidelines.

‘We all must use our voices and vote. Vote EARLY, vote safely and try to vote in person or drop your ballot in a dropbox (that’s what I did and it couldn’t have been any easier).’

The Wizards Of Waverly Place star added: ‘If you aren’t voting in person, please make sure you follow the instructions that come with your ballot carefully and do not forget to sign your ballot (it’s usually smart to use a blue or black ballpoint ink pen)!

Year 2020 will be Selena’s first time voting.

‘Honestly, I’m not ashamed to say this, but… I’m kind of… This was my first time,’ the actress/singer, 28, said during a virtual Voting Power Hour event.

Selena also explained why she feels her vote matters now more than ever.

Honestly opening up about how she overcome thinking her vote didn’t matter, she said: ‘I’m going to say that, because I’ve never felt — and this is so true, and I’m now admitting it to people — like my vote counts. Every vote counts. Some people get in their head, and they’re like, “Oh, well what does it matter?”‘

‘My main focus has been this right now,’ Selena continued, talking about getting out the vote.

‘You can tell on my social media and everything, obviously, I’m super invested in this right now. It’s been good. I feel hopeful.’

She did not, however, endorse a candidate.

Last week Selena shared some Instagram snapshots celebrating that first time voting.

The glowing former Disney star had her ‘I voted’ sticker stuck on a tank top and she captioned the photo saying: ‘Just finished filling out my ballot!’

Selena has been making voter participation a priority.

She’s currently serving as a co-chair for Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote initiative and also recently narrated an episode of Netflix’s Whose Vote Counts Explained series.
