Although the concept of generous tipping is considered somewhat alien outside the US, for American diners, it’s a necessity. And one famous American has put others to shame, according to serving staff.
An anonymous Reddit user who claims they have been serving for nearly two decades took to the forum to reveal rapper Post Malone was ‘a wonderful person and a great tipper’.
They attached a photo of a receipt from the rapper which appeared to show he had tipped them $3,000.
The Redditor, so inspired by the White Iverson singer’s generosity, added: ‘Such a genuine and cool dude. This begs the question. Which celebrities have you served that were really generous? Any surprisingly cheap celebrities?’
In response, people revealed the best (and worst) celebrity tippers on the Server Life sub-Reddit – while many agreed Post Malone was the most generous tipper they had ever encountered.
One anonymous user, who claimed they’d ‘been serving nearly 20 years’ took to Reddit to describe Post Malone as ‘a wonderful person and a great tipper’ , after they disclosed that they’d received a massive ‘$3,000 tip’
One person wrote: ‘I was working at a place that did a pooled house. Post Malone came in with a group, and we all made rent that night. Thanks Posty!’
More people spoke to the singer’s selfless nature, for which he is known. One person said: ‘I’ve never met the dude, and don’t like his music. But what I’ve heard about him, he deserves respect.’
While others joked: ‘I don’t know how to explain it but that’s 100% Post Malone’s handwriting without having ever seen it before.’

One reader compared the singer to Keanu Reeves, who is also known as a ‘nice guy’ within A-list circles, and declared: ‘Generous and very kind. We must protect him at all costs’.
Another waiter expressed their gratitude for the award-winning artist: ‘People can judge Post Malone all they want, but we know he has our backs in the service industry.
‘He sees the unseen. Dude sounds like he has a heart of gold from all accounts, which only increases my respect and admiration for him.’
More people praised the Chicago rapper, who regularly works with Tyler the Creator in his collective Odd Future.
One Redditor claimed they ‘randomly ran into him twice on the street many years apart’ and was acknowledged with a nod and wave. He a real one’.
However, Redditors implied his mentor Tyler the Creator wasn’t as kind a tipper: ‘His band mate Tyler the Creator stiffed one of our servers’.
But another waiter came to the Californian rapper’s defence: ‘When Tyler came to our restaurant he tipped 50% of the bill and gave tickets to the two servers who were waiting on him for the festival he was playing that night’.
And a different user quipped: ‘Tyler is definitely the type to make a decision whether he absolutely loves or hates someone almost immediately’.
Other celebrities that have been hailed as generous tippers included rapper Earl Sweatshirt, who tipped 100% of the bill, according to a server in Beverly Hills.
The anonymous hospitality worker said: he was ‘extremely respectful’ to staff.
