Shawn Mendes reveals Camila Cabello fell ‘deeper in love’ with him when he became more vulnerable: ‘It’s the most beautiful thing in the world’
Shawn Mendes improved his relationship with Camila Cabello by showing ‘vulnerability’ in both his songwriting and his feelings.
The 22-year-old singer revealed that the connection with his Senorita collaborator became stronger when he showed her a softer side.
‘I had no vulnerability with my girlfriend, and realized the second I showed that to her, she would fall deeper in love with me,’ he said during a chat with Alicia Keys ahead of the new Netflix documentary, Shawn Mendes: In Wonder.

Mendes added, ‘And the second she showed that to me I would fall deeper in love with her, that’s the most attractive and beautiful thing in the world, why didn’t anyone tell you that the second you blush, people like you more?’
Mendes also explained to Keys that he enjoys writing tunes that have come from the ‘heart’ and wants to express his feelings in song.
The Stitches hitmaker explained: ‘For me, I found that I started really young, being a writer and realized whatever I was told, from this or from that, the path to the most people liking your music is to say the most neutral thing.

‘And to say the thing that can affect the most people is by not saying a whole lot,’ he added.
The singer also revealed that he decided to test the boundaries of his vulnerability, which he could articulate through songwriting.
‘Then I went one step further and I wrote a song called In My Blood which is about anxiety,’ said Shawn.
He then went on to elaborate on his point, nothing that he has actively tried to stay mindful of what he is feeling as he writes his music.
Strong and silent: Mendes felt that talking less was effective in his relationship, stating that ‘the thing that can affect the most people is by not saying a whole lot.’
‘You don’t have to be an expert to talk on matters of the heart. You just have to be in touch with the heart,’ noted the hitmaker.
Mendes noted that he had previously been unable to express his feelings, as he had felt that he lacked the ability to do so in an effective manner.
‘I feel like I never gave myself permission to say that stuff before, I always thought you had to be some sort of articulate, well-read professional.
‘But you don’t at all, you don’t have to read one book to know what’s right or wrong.’
