A single radio producer has revealed the simple things men should do to make a good first impression that will guarantee a second date.
Jana Hocking, from Sydney, said the biggest dating deal breakers included men showing up on a date with bad odour, poor hygiene and zero effort with appearance.
‘There is a simple rule if you want to kick off a date the right way: Take care of your hygiene and rock up presentable. That is it. The end. Full stop,’ the 36-year-old wrote in a column for news.com.au.

Speaking about a recent encounter, Jana said she was very impressed with a last minute date to a local pub with a guy who showed up looking ‘freshly shaven, neat hair, smelt like heavenly’ and dressed in a collared shirt.
‘Men – never underestimate the power of a collared shirt. Preferably in a light blue or pink. For some reason that just gets a girls emoji love heart eyes going,’ she said.
Jana said she once went out with a ‘gorgeous’ man but he never got his second date with her because he had the ‘most horrific breath’.
‘What worried me most was that I was sitting across the other side of the table, not even up close and I could still cop a fair whiff of it,’ she recalled.
To help men get their love interest all hot under the collar, Jana shared her simple six-step checklist that will ensure everything runs smoothly on their next date.
Before a date, she suggested singletons should always brush their teeth, wash and style their hair, use deodorant, dress to impress and wear cologne.
‘Extra points if you floss and use some mouthwash,’ she added.

In December, Jana explained why men should always foot the bill on the first date in a hotly contested debate that’s been raging for years.
‘So let’s end this debate once and for all and just say, blokes pay for the first date. It’s hot, it’s manly, and will have us bragging to our friends,’ Jana said.
To back up her statement, she referenced Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist and senior research fellow at the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University Bloomington, who said: ‘Women want to know if a man will spend his resources on her.
Helen added: ‘For millions of years they needed a partner to provide for their young, and they keep looking for that signal.’
However, Jana insisted the one time it’s acceptable to split the bill is when you know there’s no interest in a second date.
‘I’ve been on dates when I’ve known fairly early that the guy wasn’t for me and absolutely insisted on paying half, because I couldn’t live with the guilt of walking away knowing he had just splurged on a big bill for nothing,’ she said.
Jana pointed out the first date doesn’t necessarily need to be fancy because some of the ‘best’ dates she’s been on included a simple picnic in the park and happy hour at a local pub.
