Stacey Hampton claims MAFS producers edit scenes to make her look like a ‘gold digger’

Is Stacey Hampton a ‘gold digger’? Married At First Sight star reveals the truth behind blonde bombshell’s reason for being on the show

Viewers quickly labelled Stacey Hampton a ‘gold digger’ after she appeared to be only interested in her new ‘husband’ Michael Goonan after discovering his millionaire status.

But the 26-year-old law graduate has claimed the real events played out differently to how it was portrayed on Married At First Sight

The law graduate said she decided to give Michael a chance before she found out about his family’s Adelaide-based business empire.

Setting the record straight: Stacey Hampton has hit back at claims she is a ‘gold digger’ after she appeared to be only interested in her new ‘husband’ Michael Goonan when she discovered his millionaire status on Married At First Sight, this week

‘They weren’t showing a lot of bits,’ Stacey told Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa on Tuesday.

The mother-of-two claims the show’s producers gave her friend a phone with the enlightening information on it.

She added: ‘The phone thing. No one in reception had a phone so I felt it very bizarre my friend just happened to have one. That was very weird.’

Stacey remembered telling her friends she would give him a chance, before she found out Michael was the manager director of Adelaide Ice, not after like it appeared on the show.

‘Then  it (the scene) cuts to me giving him a chance. I said that before she even brought the phone out. They chopped that bit in after,’ she said, telling skeptics to ask the people who were really there.

Stacey’s accusations come after a production source revealed wedding guests weren’t allowed to use their phones during filming.

‘The weddings are always closed sets and mobile phones aren’t allowed,’ said the source.

‘Guests are briefed beforehand and told to keep their phones turned off and out of sight. There are runners constantly watching to make sure nobody gets them out.’

The mobile phone ban is to prevent spoilers from leaking on social media, as all of the MAFS weddings are filmed several months in advance.

This suggests that producers may have ‘staged’ the scene by encouraging Carla to Google Michael’s name at the reception.

But it’s unlikely she was given strict instructions, as crew members instead prefer to ‘nudge people in the right direction’ and let things play out naturally.

Married At First Sight continues Tuesday at 7:30pm on Channel Nine
