Chanel originally lived on the third floor of the hotel but the 2,024 square-foot suite named after her is located one floor below.

It was moved during the Ritz’s extensive renovations from 2012 to 2016.

The refurbishment of the Coco Chanel suite was masterminded by the late Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld.

Chanel once said ‘a girl should be two things: classy and fabulous’ and it appears Lagerfeld applied this approach to the interior design of her namesake suite.

Adding a touch of ‘fabulous’ are grand glass chandeliers, gilded mirrors, and marble-clad fireplaces.

Gold lion ornaments also make an appearance, a reference to Chanel’s Leo star sign.

Along with her place at the Ritz, Chanel had an apartment around the corner at 31 Rue Cambon but there was no bedroom and she used it as a space to entertain instead. Above, photographed in her suite at the Ritz in 1938

The Ritz currently has 71 suites, with 15 paying homage to its most famous guests, including Coco Chanel, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Chopin, Charlie Chaplin, Marcel Proust and Ernest Hemingway.

Furthering the Chanel connection is the Chanel Au Ritz spa, which offers various Chanel-inspired beauty treatments and branded products.
