Swansea’s managerial search has taken a twist after they made an official approach to MK Dons for Russell Martin.

Martin had initially turned down interest from Championship play-off finalists Swansea.

He also confirmed he plans to be in charge for MK Dons Carabao Cup tie at Bournemouth on Saturday.

But Swansea still retained hope of appointing rising boss Martin and their approach to his club comes as MK Dons chiefs fear the 35 year-old is now having second thoughts.

The League One side want Martin to stay. His current deal ends next summer and Swansea will have to pay compensation to get Martin out of his contract.

Swansea are hunting for a new manager following Steve Cooper’s departure last week.

QPR assistant manager John Eustace turned down the role at the weekend while former Chelsea No. 2 Jody Morris is also a contender for the job.
