Lucy Fallon says she’s open to returning to Coronation Street in the future

Lucy Fallon says she’s open to returning to Coronation Street in the future as COVID-19 has thrown her new career ‘up in the air’

She made the ‘difficult’ decision to leave the cobbles in May 2019 after a five-year stint as troubled Bethany Platt.

And Lucy Fallon has said she’s open to returning to Coronation Street as the coronavirus pandemic has thrown her new career ‘up in the air’.

‘I absolutely love that show’: Lucy Fallon has said she’s open to returning to Coronation Street as the coronavirus pandemic has thrown her new career ‘up in the air’

The soap star told The Sun: ‘Obviously Covid-19 has thrown it all up in the air now. I’m very conscious of the fact that I don’t want it to sound like I see going back to Corrie as a back-up — that’s absolutely not how it is.

‘I absolutely love that show and I would do it a thousand times over and I obviously would 100 per cent go back there in future if they will have me. Corrie is the only part I’ve ever auditioned for… but I know that’s not always going to happen.

‘At the moment auditions are all being done remotely so I’ve done a few self-tapes, including one today, and I’ve read for a new comedy which is still in the pipeline, so I’m hoping something will work out.’

Lucy has been selling her clothes online after she has been left out of work due to the global crisis.

MailOnline has contacted ITV representatives for comment.

During her time on Corrie, Lucy earned nationwide praise for her performance in various storylines, including a 2017 plot which saw Bethany groomed and sexually abused.

The hard-hitting storyline saw the character nearly sold abroad by her abuser Nathan, but she eventually escaped his control with the villain eventually imprisoned for his crimes.

However, there have been some important lifestyles changes Lucy has learnt from lockdown.

The TV star recently admitted her gruelling schedule playing Bethany affected her health, so is now on a post-soap detox.

The actress overhauled her lifestyle after noticing that nightly takeaways were taking a toll on her fitness.

Catherine Tyldesley has uploaded a candid image of herself in tears onto Instagram on Sunday.

In support of Mental Health Awareness Month, the former Coronation Street star, 36, shared some struggles of her own as she admitted the current coronavirus lockdown has put her in a ‘dark place’.

The actress confessed she was left ‘crying all the time’ when her mother was sent to ICU for an emergency surgery – an ordeal which left her ‘unable to parent’ her son Alfie, five, who she shares with her photographer husband Tom Pitfield.

‘Lockdown has brought up many emotions for many people’, the media personality penned.

On the challenges she’s recently faced, the soap star explained: ‘Some days have been incredibly hard. Dark. Unworkable.

‘When my mum was in ICU I could barely function. It seemed all I could do was cry. I couldn’t parent. My inner child simply craved my mums touch…

‘Thus I felt shame/mum guilt for not being able to ‘mother’ my own son. I’m lucky- I have a brilliant hands- on husband who has been the greatest support to us. Some people don’t have anyone. I can’t bare to imagine that.

‘Teamed with a huge change in my hormonal balance – last month was nothing short of horrendous.’

The illness is not thought to be coronavirus-related, although Catherine’s mother and father have reportedly both had the disease.

The news comes after Catherine revealed her grandfather is fighting for his life in hospital, having contracted COVID-19 also.

Her worries have lessened, however, as she revealed Janet is now home from hospital and recovering.

Back in November, Nigel said he would ‘always’ love to return to the soap as conman Lewis Archer.

Speaking on Loose Women the actor said he ‘absolutely loved’ playing the villainous character, before he dramatically died of a heart attack on New Year’s Day.

While it seems unlikely that Nigel could ever return to the soap, the panel went onto say that there are still conspiracy theories that his character is alive.

During the interview, Nigel reflected on his time playing Lewis, alongside his ongoing romance with Audrey Roberts.

Despite his wicked ways, many soap fans grew to love their relationship, and fans were stunned when he dropped dead of a heart attack with an engagement ring for Audrey in his hands.

When asked whether he could ever be resurrected, Nigel said: ‘I’d always go back. I absolutely loved doing it.

‘The people are so nice and the story lines are so great. I call myself a letterbox actor which means anything that comes through the letterbox, I do.’

He continued: ‘I played a charmer years ago and this was an updated version. In the end I turned out to be really nice. I had the engagement ring in my pocket.’

The panel went onto reveal that there are conspiracy theories rife that Lewis is still alive, and Nigel refused to confirm or deny the possibility that we could see him in Weatherfield again in the future.

He added: ‘You just don’t know. Or he has a twin brother somewhere. Or maybe I’m in Barbados waiting to come back.’
