ITV stars are reportedly bracing themselves for pay cuts as the channel’s ad revenue has plummeted amid the coronavirus crisis.

While the station’s top stars such as Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield and Ant and Dec, are said to be in the clear, the channel’s soap stars are worried about the cuts.

According to The Sun, a source said reduction in talent pay is ‘inevitable’ and younger stars of Coronation Street and Emmerdale are worried about being able to make ends meet if they don’t get any work.

Many lesser known figures at the station are said to be furious at the prospect of their pay being cut while ITV’s top stars will be spared.

A source told the publication: ‘Well-known stars know they’ll be touched but there is some anger that it’s unlikely to affect the biggest names.’

The pay cuts are expected in phases with those unable to present shows said to likely be the first who will be affected.

ITV reported a 42 per cent fall in ad revenue in April as the pandemic forced the broadcaster to cut its spending.

While Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set to resume filming, many stars are reportedly worried they won’t get enough work.

Those who are paid per episode are particularly worried that their episode count could drop.

Social distancing rules the soaps will be implementing will mean a smaller cast will be required and the slow speed of filming will result in fewer instalments per week.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Coronation Street and Emmerdale for comment.

Earlier this month, sources confirmed Emmerdale bosses have put together a plan for the cast to return to set in June and film with the use of clever camera angles to ensure stars are adhering to social distancing.

It comes just days after MailOnline confirmed Corrie bosses have put together a ‘return-to-production protocol’ after filming was suspended to follow COVID-19 regulations.

A source told The Sun that bosses are using Emmerdale as the benchmark for filming while adhering to social distancing, as the soap boasts a large set.

It’s thought some of the cast will return to production in smaller groups, with scenes filmed with the use of clever camera angles to ensure stars keep at least two metres apart.

A soap insider said: ‘Production is starting up again in June. Emmerdale is being used as the benchmark for safety guidelines as they have a lot of space and it’s the perfect location to put the social distancing measures into practice.

‘Everyone will be adhering to social distancing and scenes will be filmed with smaller groups.

‘The teams will be able to film in certain ways which will minimise distancing. The scripting teams are working on creating storylines with fewer characters.’

Phillip surprised fans on February 7 by issuing a statement on social media declaring that after 27 years of marriage, he was ‘coming to terms with the fact that I am gay’.

In a choreographed follow-up, he took his place on the This Morning sofa besides co-host Holly Willoughby to further pour his heart out.

Writing on Instagram about his decision to come out, he said: ‘With the strength and support of my wife and daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.

‘My inner conflict contrasts with an outside world that has changed so very much for the better. Today, quite rightly, being gay is a reason to celebrate and be proud.’

He later admitted in a newspaper interview that it was too early to say if he and Steph would stay married.

‘It has taken me a long time to get here, I am not rushing to get to any other place,’ he said. ‘We will always be a family… And where the wind blows us I don’t know. But I still love Steph as much as when we first met. More probably.’

The presenter previously revealed he had been leading the ‘perfect life’ after getting married and raising his two children, claiming he hadn’t wanted anything to get in the way of his happiness.

Phillip also admitted he battled depression as he struggled with his sexuality, and even sought therapy to come to terms with it, before deciding he found it more helpful speaking to friends in private.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield call out a guest for flouting lockdown

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were left furious on Thursday’s This Morning after a ‘brazen’ caller revealed she was planning to flout lockdown to celebrate her birthday at her sister’s house.

The two presenters, aged 39 and 58, were left horrified during a phone-in segment with Vanessa Feltz as a viewer called ‘Emma’ revealed her ploy to break government guidelines and even stay the night at her sibling’s home.

Emma insisted that they both live alone and have no underlying illness or COVID-19 symptoms. The caller also stressed that she hasn’t seen anyone so far apart from members of the public during her visit to the shops.

Not impressed: Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were left furious on Thursday’s This Morning after a ‘brazen’ caller revealed she was planning to flout lockdown to celebrate her birthday at her sister’s house

Britons have had to avoid meeting up with friends and families since March 16, a week before the full lockdown came in on March 23.

Yet the two presenters were left unimpressed by the caller with Holly pointing out the government guidelines of only being allowed to see one person outside your household while remaining a social distance outdoors.

While Phillip despairingly exclaimed: ‘Nothing we say is going to stop you is it? You sound like you’re going to go no matter what.’

To which an adamant Emma replied: ‘Nope!’ as she insisted that she wasn’t doing anything wrong and would still celebrate her birthday with her sister.

Emma even joked that she was more concerned about her sister serving ‘couscous’ at her birthday meal than the deadly virus, which has killed 35,704 and infected 248K people in the UK so far.

Holly and Phillip were left raising their eyebrows and shaking their heads over the caller.

Viewers were also left furious over the scenes as they took to Twitter to call out Emma’s brazen attitude to lockdown.

One person said: ‘People like Emma on @thismorning make me sick. I have been alone since lockdown began and had my birthday in April but we didn’t break the lockdown.

Phillip Schofield begged for pubs to open in an impassioned rant on Wednesday which saw him trending on Twitter.

The host, 58, said ‘people are going crackers’ and that ‘we’ve all got really good at social distancing.’

Talking to LBC host Nick Ferrari, 61, on This Morning, he said: ‘Aren’t we just craving them? We now know how to socially distance, we are getting better and better at it.

‘We’re getting better at that now. So if there is a pub garden, a business that can open… mentally, we’re all going crackers.’

He continued: ‘Nick wouldn’t you – I would open pubs. Let’s get us out there! As long as we’re not mixing too closely let’s go and have a pint!’

The Prime Minister has urged people to return to work and hoped that from June 1 schools and shops would reopen.

He also said it’s his ‘ambition’ to start opening some hospitality businesses on July 4, as the PM tries to get the economy kickstarted.

The newly-released draft plans give a glimpse of how restaurants, bars and other leisure facilities will operate as the country eases out of lockdown, and offers suggestions for how they can operate safely during the coronavirus pandemic.

The industry has been devastated by the health crisis, with sales plummeting and many businesses still unsure if reopening with social distancing rules will be financially viable.
