TALK OF THE TOWN: Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May post £21million loss for their DriveTribe online car community

Petrolheads Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May may have made millions through the success of their TV shows, but their foray into social media has spluttered.

Their DriveTribe venture has racked up £21million in losses in the four years since the online community for car fanatics was created.

The company behind it is Digital Tribe Holdings and its chief executive, Jonathan Morris, tells me the loss is large because it counts investment that has been made into the company – backers include Disney and Elisabeth Murdoch, the TV executive daughter of media mogul Rupert.

‘It’s just the way accounts are reported in the UK – investment counts towards losses and we have made a lot of inward investment,’ Morris says. ‘We have a longer-term plan and have seen some strong growth.’

The bag is often said to be the ultimate fashion accessory, but I think stunning actress Salma Hayek is taking things a little too far here…

Salma, 54, posted a delightful snap of herself inside a Bottega Veneta bag to mark the birthday of the brand’s British creative director, Daniel Lee, who turned 35 on Friday.

She is being pulled along by her French husband François-Henri Pinault, 58, who is the chief executive of the label’s parent company, Kering.

It looks like a high-quality bag, but even so, I’m not sure those handles will hold for long…
