Four teenagers including one as young as 13 led police on a wild car chase throughout Sydney in a stolen white Mercedes before fleeing on foot, police say.

The alleged driver, an 18-year-old man, was wanted by police when they spotted him driving the car on Victoria Road in Ermington around 9.30 on Friday morning.

Police, with the assistance of a PolAir helicopter, followed the car as it allegedly raced through the city at speeds of up to 100km/h before the group eventually became caught in traffic 13km away in Drummoyne.

As the car came to an abrupt stop the teenagers decided to flee on foot with a 13-year-old girl attempting to escape on a bus.

Police managed to chase down four of the teens but a woman believed to be in her 20s is still on the loose.

One of the teenagers nearly made it over a fence before being pulled to the ground by an officer and pinned down by a passer-by.

The 13-year-old raced into a nearby shop asking to buy some ‘shoes’ before then trying to leave the area on a bus, Nine News reported.

‘We had this young girl walk into our shop, very dishevelled, very smelly and we ask if she is alright and she just said: ‘oh I just need shoes’,’ one witness said.

‘They were clearly on the run,’ another witness, William Elde said.

‘They were going as fast as they could. They had all the police running behind them.’

Detective Sergeant Andrew Mackay condemned the driver for his reckless behaviour.

‘The behaviour of the male driver and the occupants was disgusting,’ he told reporters.

‘The 18-year-old male endangered the lives of many people on the road, his passengers and himself.’

The 13-year-old and three males, two aged 17 and one aged 18 were taken to Ryde Police Station.

The driver was charged with six offences including driving dangerously and destroying or damaging property.

He will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Saturday.

The two 17 year olds were charged with being carried in conveyance taken without consent of the owner and were granted bail to appear in the children’s court on October 26.

The young girl will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Police are yet to track down the second female involved with Mr Mackay warning she will be found and arrested.
