The Million Pound Cube was forced to apologise after viewers were left with no sound after the hit ITV show hosted by Phillip Schofield returned after five years.

The highly-anticipated show saw comedian Mo Gilligan, 32, take on the formidable Cube on Saturday where he completed simple challenges under immense pressure.

However the sound dimmed when Mo headed back into the Cube before it cut out entirely leaving one fan claiming: ‘2020 has been that bad even my hearing has done a runner’.

Oh no! The Million Pound Cube was forced to apologise after viewers were left with no sound after the ITV show hosted by Phillip Schofield returned after five years on Saturday

The show, which first aired in 2009, returned to screens after a five-year hiatus with a prized jackpot of £1 million.

Mo appeared with actor David Ajao in the Cube where the pair had to swap a  number of cubes through holes in a wall to each other before the sound cut out.

Phillip said: ‘Tell me when you are ready Cube and we will play the game. Cube play the game.’

In a lower volume, Mo is heard saying: ‘Let’s play the game. Let’s go, let’s go, put that in there brother.

‘Come on David, come on David let’s win this money bro. You got this! There you go bruv. There you go, There you go, there you go!’

The technical glitch was fixed with ITV apologising in the credits at the end of the show.

Yet viewers were left confused after the sound completely cut out and they were later defeated after it eventually returned when they had turned up the volume.

One wrote: ‘2020 has been that bad even my hearing has done a runner. Oh thank God it’s just a sound issue with ITV.’

Another penned: ‘Checking Twitter to see if everyone’s TV is quiet or if their boyfriend is sat on the remote and lying.’

A third added: ‘I feel sorry for all the people that just turned their TV all the way up.’

‘Everyone going onto Twitter to see if the sound on other people’s tellies has gone,’ a fourth wrote.

The show launched with a one-off celebrity special featuring Mo along with fellow comedian Jason Manford, 39, which saw them each complete tasks for their chosen charities.

Each contestant must complete seven challenges with just nine lives to get them through with each game a step closer to winning the ultimate £1 million prize.

For the first time the five-episode series saw two-person challenges in the four-metre squared container from pairs in the same household.

A TV insider told The Sun: ‘The last time The Cube aired was in 2015, so there was no way ITV would bring it back without making some radical changes to refresh the show.

They added: ‘But the simple format at the heart of the show remains largely unchanged — it’s still about contestants desperately trying to keep their cool.’
