The Voice Kids viewers sob as blind 13-year-old girl stuns coaches with her phenomenal singing voice

The Voice Kids returned to ITV on Saturday night.

And, viewers were left sobbing as a blind 13-year-old girl stunned coaches Paloma Faith, Pixie Lott, Danny Jones and Will I Am with her phenomenal singing voice. 

Lydia from Worcester sang a stunning rendition of Your Song, based on Ellie Goulding’s cover of the Elton John song which left those watching taking to social media to brand her ‘an inspiration’.

Ahead of her performance, Lydia explained to viewers: ‘I was born with a genetic condition affecting my eyes which means that I am blind.’ 

Showing her true character, the undeterred teen joked when a crew member knocked something behind the camera, as she quipped: ‘Careful, it’s normally me walking into things, you’re not meant to do that!’ 

Lydia’s mother explained: ‘We were told that there were two ways of dealing with it, you wrap her in cotton wool, or you prepare her to do anything.’

But Lydia insisted: ‘I don’t let anything hold me back, I love giving things a go and I love surprising people.’

Her mother revealed that when her daughter is having a hard time, she goes to her room and sings to help get herself through.

After her mesmerising performance, the studio audience and coaches gave Lydia a much-deserved standing ovation.

Asked by Danny how long she’s been singing for, Lydia told him: ‘Forever, because I’m blind so I don’t draw, I don’t do anything like that, but i sing and I listen to stuff.

‘I was five and I was singing in the car with my grandpa and he said I had a really nice voice so I started singing.’

Completely awe-struck by her performance, Paloma told Lydia: ‘It felt a bit magical and you sounded really beautiful.’

‘I’m sobbing, Lydia on #TheVoiceKids Was utterly incredible, I’m so moved. As a fellow VI person I’m so proud of her,’ tweeted one fan of the show.

‘Don’t mind me crying because there was a young girl on The Voice Kids who took up singing because she wasn’t able to paint or draw due to being blind,’ wrote another.

One viewer gushed: ‘Lydia is a phenomenal girl. Her attitude, outlook on life and general positivity is admirable. She will go very far and do very well in life. She sees the ability in disability. Lydia is an inspiration to us all! #TheVoiceKids.’
