Thieves steal more than $1million worth of silver bullion from a truck travelling between Sydney and Melbourne in remarkable heist

  • Robbers have stolen more than $1million worth of silver bullion from a truck
  • The truck was travelling between Sydney and Melbourne in late November
  • Theft of the bullion was only discovered when the truck arrived in Melbourne
  • Police estimate 192 individual 5kg bars of silver bullion are worth $1,015,000


Brazen thieves have stolen more than $1million worth of silver bullion from a truck travelling between Sydney and Melbourne.

NSW police are appealing for help in solving the theft that was discovered when the truck arrived in Melbourne on November 29 after leaving NSW on November 26.

The consignment – 192 individual 5kg silver bars – was being transported by a Kenworth truck and silver Krueger trailer, police said in a statement on Monday.

Detectives believe the robbery took place as the truck left Maldon, near Picton in the NSW Macarthur Region, from 4:30pm on November 26 to 8am on November 29.  

The silver bullion is estimated to be worth $1,015,000. 

Police have released an image of one of the silver bars as well as its packaging, in an appeal for public information on Tuesday. 

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
