This is what 52 looks like: Recruitment company founder reveals power-hooping and an expensive neck cream keeps her young

  • Helen Ward, 52, from London is the founder of a recruitment company
  • She began a daily fruit diet after HRT for menopause caused her to gain weight
  • Mother-of-one revealed microblading and a weekly blow-dry keep her youthful

Helen Ward lives in London with her husband, Jon, and their daughter, Mia, 15. She is the founder of Arts and Media, an entertainment recruitment company.

DAILY POWER-HOOPING

Every week, I do 10,000 rotations on my Powerhoop (£29.95, powerhoop.co.uk), a weighted hula hoop. I split this between two five-minute sessions a day, five days a week. I count up to 1,000 each time, which helps me switch off. It builds core strength and I’ve lost 5cm around my waist. I also do two weights sessions with my trainer every week and a solo run.

MAGIC NECK CREAM

I haven’t had Botox or fillers yet. But I noticed I was starting to get a turkey neck so I tried Sisley Neck Cream (£116, sisley-paris.com). It’s expensive, but after using it intensively for two weeks, my skin was smoother and firmer. Now I use it three times a week as maintenance.

A-LIST SKIN SECRET

Every day, I take Imedeen Prime Renewal skincare tablets (£199.99 for a six-month supply, boots.com). They contain a cocktail of vitamins to promote collagen production. I’ve been using them since I was in my 40s and it has made a difference to my skin, which is clearer and firmer.

THE FRUIT DIET

I hit the menopause early, at 40. It affected my mood — I wasn’t sleeping, so I was exhausted and crying all the time. My doctor put me on HRT. My husband says he got his wife back overnight. But I have noticed I’ve put on weight in the past few years, so I now only eat fruit and Greek yoghurt during the day. Then, I have a big dinner when I get home.

TIME-SAVING TREATMENTS

Last year, I had my eyebrows microbladed for the first time (£490 for two treatments with Daxita at athertoncox.co.uk). I used to get them threaded, but they’re very fair. It took about two hours and hurt slightly. But it has helped to add definition and frame my face. I also get a weekly blow-dry (£30), so I can shower, get ready and do my make-up in 20 minutes every day.
