UFC legend Tito Ortiz claims he would beat light heavyweight great Jon Jones if they fought in their prime

  • Tito Ortiz believes the best version of him could have beaten Jon Jones
  • The American held the light heavyweight title between 2000 and 2003
  • Jones is regarded as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz believes that he would claim victory if he and Jon Jones fought each other in their prime.

Ortiz was one of the early stars of the promotion, holding the 205-pound title between 2000 and 2003.

Jones is regarded by many as one of, if not the, greatest mixed martial artists of all time with his only ‘loss’ in 28 fights coming courtesy of an extremely controversial disqualification.

Tito Ortiz has said that he would have beaten Jon Jones by a split decision in his prime

In a recent interview, Jerry Coughlan asked Ortiz who he thought would win if prime Tito Ortiz took on prime Jon Jones.

Ortiz said, ‘Umm, I think I would win by split decision.’

During his stint with the company, Ortiz not only won the light heavyweight title, he also defended it an impressive five times against the likes of Evan Tanner, Ken Shamrock, and Elvis Sinosic among others.

When ‘Bones‘ was the champion, Ortiz was in a slump and succumbed to multiple losses. Therefore, he could not build a case to fight Jon Jones. After leaving the UFC, Ortiz was a part of multiple promotions such as Bellator and most recently Combate Americas.
