A top chef who worked under Heston Blumenthal has shared his simple trick for removing a broken eggshell from raw eggs.

British born chef Robbie Bell, who’s the head charcutier at City Larder in Melbourne, said the easiest and quickest way was to use half of the shell to scoop the little shards out of the egg whites.

‘This is a great little tip. The best way to remove egg shell from your egg is by using half of the shell you just cracked,’ he said in his TikTok video.

‘It works every single time.’

His video has since been viewed more than 30,000 times, with many admitting they always use their fingers to remove the pesky little piece of shell.

‘You’re 20 years too late. Why didn’t someone tell me this earlier?’ one wrote, while another said: ‘Why have I never known this?’

And one man added: ‘Holy s***, why was I not taught this at chef school?’

However, some suggested the trick was ‘common knowledge’ – and were curious to know how others usually remove broken shells from their eggs.

And Robbie isn’t the only chef to share the tip. British chef Jamie Oliver previously revealed how he removed the broken shell fragments from the eggs.

‘We’ve all done it. We’re making an omelette or a cake and we’re cracking our eggs and then a little bit of random shell just accidentally falls into the egg,’ Jamie said.

‘Now the natural instinct is to get in there with your fingers but if you try and get it, it always runs away and it’s kind of annoying.

‘The easiest way to do it, believe it or not, is go back to our friend Mr. Shell. You can mop it up easily and get those annoying bits of shell every single time. Happy days.

‘So there you go guys – that’s how to remove shell from eggs.’
