Tottenham ‘could meet with Maurizio Sarri in London NEXT WEEK’ to discuss replacing Jose Mourinho as Italian press continue to link the ex-Chelsea boss with shock Premier League return

  • Tottenham could hold talks with Maurizio Sarri next week, it is claimed in Italy
  • Jose Mourinho’s position is at risk after a disappointing season in north London
  • Sarri is currently without a job after being sacked by Juventus last season
  • He is said to be aware of Spurs’ interest but is also wanted by Roma and Napoli

Tottenham could meet with former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri next week to hold talks over the possibility of replacing Jose Mourinho, reports in Italy claim.

Mourinho is under huge pressure in north London after a frustrating season that has left Spurs six points off the Champions League places and saw them dumped out of the Europa League in humiliating fashion at Dinamo Zagreb.

Sarri is without a club after being sacked by Juventus and reports in Italy this week claimed he was in the frame to take over at Spurs. Now La Gazzetta dello Sport say the Premier League side want to hold talks over the possibility of hiring him.

The Italian outlet claims talks between the club and Sarri could take place in London as early as next week with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy weighing up his options for the managerial hot seat.

It is also reported that Tottenham were initially interested in hiring Sarri in the summer of 2018, when he left Napoli to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri, 62, is said to be aware of Tottenham’s interest as he ponders a return to management.

Roma are also said to be interested in Sarri’s services, while a move back to Napoli has been talked of with Gennaro Gattuso’s job at risk.

Sarri was never truly appreciated at Chelsea and left after his first season in charge, despite winning the Europa League and delivering a top-four finish.

It is similar to the way he left Juventus last season, parting company despite leading the Turin side to the Scudetto – their ninth Serie A title in succession.

Mourinho watched his side lose yet more ground on the top four last weekend after throwing away a 1-0 lead to lose 3-1 at home to his former club Manchester United

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss is under heavy scrutiny following a 10th defeat of the season in the Premier League and the 3-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb that saw them dumped out of Europe last month.

The 58-year-old has started to show signs of turning his back on his own players and hit out at them after they failed to hold on to their 2-1 advantage against Newcastle on April 4.

He claimed it was a case of ‘same coach, different players’ when asked why his side were failing to see out games.
