Trailer park landlord tells tenants he’ll RAISE rents if Biden wins

Trailer park landlord tells tenants he will RAISE their rents if Joe Biden wins – but says he won’t increase it in next two years if Trump is re-elected

  • The landlord of a Fort Morgan, Colorado trailer park sent tenants a recent letter
  • The letter states rents would likely double if Joe Biden is elected president
  • It also says the rent will not be raised for two years if Donald Trump is re-elected
  • The Colorado Attorney General is investigating the legality of the letter as some claim it is a form of voter suppression

A group of trailer park tenants in Fort Morgan, Colorado, are angry over a letter they received from their landlord that they argue essentially encourages residents to vote for Donald Trump for president.

The letter, dated October 19, threatens a drastic doubling of the rent if Joe Biden wins the presidency, while promising no rent increases for two years if Trump wins.

The letter, acquired by 9NEWS, emphatically stated, ‘IF the current President is re-elected, WE WILL NOT RAISE THE RENT FOR AT LEAST 2 YEARS!’

This letter was sent to residents of Ed Pagel’s Trailer Park in Fort Morgan, Colorado

One of the key lines reads, ‘Voting is your choice and we are not telling you how to vote. We are just informing our tenants what WE will do according to the election results.’

To some, that sounds like an effort to influence tenants to vote for Trump rather than Biden, which can be viewed as a form of voter suppression.

The Colorado Secretary of State’s office – responsible for the running of the election in the state – received a complaint and forwarded it along to the state’s Attorney General, Democrat Phil Weiser.

‘How could someone say something like that or basically threaten us according to something that we can’t control?’ said Cindy Marquez, a tenant of Ed Pagel’s Trailer Park.

The letter was signed by Bernie Pagel, the landlord of the trailer park.

The letter also stated rents would not rise for two years if Donald Trump is re-elected

Bernie Pagel, the landlord of the trailer park, said rents wouldn’t rise if Trump was re-elected

In the letter, Pagel argues that the rent increases will be necessary under Biden, as the prices of taxes, utilities, and even groceries would rise under a Biden administration.

Those claims appear to be unfounded.

It’s not clear what a doubling of the rent would look like for tenants of Ed Pagel’s Trailer Park.

Silver Spur Campground, an RV park also located in Fort Morgan that caters to local utility workers, advertises rent prices between $625 and $650 a month.

For Marquez, whose family has lived in the trailer park for two decades, the damage of a significant rent increase could be devastating.

‘Our family lives paycheck to paycheck and right now we barely make things out with what we get,’ she said.
