Twitter users baffled after Senator Elizabeth Warren suggests women ‘dump the guy who ghosted you’

Senator Elizabeth Warren is being called out by Twitter users for her advice to ‘dump the guy who ghosted you’ — with hundreds of people pointing out that that’s impossible.

On January 8, the 70-year-old Democratic presidential candidate tweeted: ‘You deserve better. Dump the guy who ghosted you, convince the roommate to let you adopt a dog, and I’ll take care of canceling your student loan debt!’

While the point of the tweet was to promote her plan for wiping out debt, many people latched onto her quip about getting ghosted — and noted that you can’t ‘dump’ someone who has already stopped talking to you.

The term ‘ghosting’ has been around since the mid-2000s but really took off in 2015.

It’s used to describe the behavior of someone who abruptly ceases communication, and is usually applied to a romantic interest.

So Twitter users have pointed out to Senator Warren that it’s not possible to ‘dump’ a guy who has stopped dumped you — nonverbally — in the first place.

‘How do you dump a guy who already ghosted you tho?’ asked FoxNews contributor Katie Pavlich.

‘Isn’t it hard to dump a guy who has already ghosted you?’ asked Reason editor Stephanie Slade.

Some mocked her for trying to hard and pandering to young voters, with one man writing: ‘Elizabeth Warren is Like that Awkward cringy Mom who tries to be cool around her teenager son or daughters friends.’

Several people have come to her defense, though, calling the tweet ‘cute’ and giving her the benefit of the doubt.

‘She means dump him from your mind!! As in, stop letting him control your thoughts, focus on others, on better people,’ one man wrote.

Still others blamed her social media manger, pointing out that it’s unlikely she herself wrote the tweet.

And in fact, the tweet including a link to a video Q&A for Elle magazine, in which Senator Warren actually said something quite different, which indicated that she does, in fact, know what ghosting is.

The video included a question from a reader who asked, ‘I’ve been casually dating a guy for the past three months, but now he’s ghosting me.

‘He won’t return my texts, but he still looks at all my Instagram Stories. What do I do?’

Warren advised her to let him go.

‘Give him up. You’re too good for him,’ she said. ‘If he wants to go silent, let him go. He is not the one for you. Guys who do that, nuh uh. You’re better than that.’

This isn’t Warren’s first time giving dating advice on the campaign trail.

‘We Stan a Queen. Nay, a PRESIDENT. … I am deceased. And ready to welcome new love in my life. And then get our new pres elected,’ Black wrote when Warren replied

‘Do you think Elizabeth Warren has a plan to fix my love life?’ Black tweeted on May 18.

Warren responded less than 12 hours later, replying: ‘DM me and let’s figure it this out.’

Her response received thousands of likes from delighted Twitter users, and Black herself seemed elated by Warren’s offer.

‘I knew I could count on you,’ she tweeted. ‘We Stan a Queen. Nay, a PRESIDENT. … I am deceased. And ready to welcome new love in my life. And then get our new pres elected. #shehasaplan.’

Days later, Warren called Black, who recounted their conversation on Twitter.

‘Guess who’s crying and shaking and just talked to Elizabeth Warren on the phone?!?!? We have a plan to get my mom grandkids, it’s very comprehensive, and it does involve raising taxes on billionaires,’ she wrote.
