Vegan Twitter users from around the world shared snaps of the disappointing – and downright bizarre – birthday desserts they have been served.
The thread was started after 18-year-old Yazmin, from the US, shared a photo of the banana slice and candle she was presented with at her celebratory dinner.
The posts quickly went viral, with the first garnering 8.1K retweets and 67.8K likes, prompting other vegans to share their own dispiriting experiences.
Others revealed they had been given similarly odd plates, including one diner who was given nothing more than a glass of ice with a cherry on top.
Another wrote: ‘I too am vegan and one time one of my colleagues was moving to another store and he got everyone cookies and me a celery stick.’
