Surveillance camera footage showed how a brave driver fought off an armed mugger over $22 and tossed him out a public transportation bus in Mexico.

The video shows Luis Ángel, 22, removing his backpack from his back and placing it over his front side in order not to tip off the driver, Jorge, who was nearing the end of his evening shift last Tuesday in Torreón, a city in the northeastern state of Coahuila.

Luis Ángel then pulled a gun from under his shirt walked over to threaten Jorge while he was still driving.

After failing to get Jorge to hand over his money, Luis Ángel sat back in his seat.

The men continued to argue as Jorge put the bus in motion. A while later, Luis Ángel rose from his seat and once again walked over to Jorge to point the gun to his head.

Jorge told Mexican television network Telediario that the armed man told him he was going to shoot him and then decided to press the breaks and stop the bus to confront him.

The video shows Jorge falling forward as he got entangled with Luis Ángel. He tried  to disarm him – a decision he acknowledged was a dangerous one – before he managed to push him out of the bus.

‘I was so angered,’ Jorge said. ‘More than anything I risked myself for my family. I probably put myself at risk and it was not worth it.’

Jorge is seen placing the bus back in motion and later stopped to hurl some expletives at Luis Ángel in Spanish before taking off.

He reported the incident to the bus dispatcher and continued working.

Torreón mayor Sergio Lara announced Tuesday that Luis Ángel had been arrested at a checkpoint while he was riding a motorcycle.

Authorities confiscated the gun that was reportedly used in the botched robbery.
