One tweeted: ‘Channel4 has been off air for a full 5 minutes. Gremlins have struck.’
Another added: ‘They’ve even cut off voiceover man. Things are going well. Channel 4’.
One Twitter user said: ‘I have seen some technical difficulties on Channel 4 before, but never to this scale.’
However, others took a more light-hearted approach, with one Twitter user joking: ‘Have Channel 4 not paid their electricity bill?’.
And another said they were pleased to see Channel 4 without adverts, saying: ‘Channel 4 without adverts, yes please!’.
It is not clear why the channel went off air. However, Channel 4 today announced on its Twitter: ‘
‘We’re having some tech issues on C4 tonight – the eagle eyed amongst you may have spotted that some of our scheduling has gone awry.
‘We’re very sorry about that and are doing all we can to sort it. In the meantime stand by for updates…..’
Meanwhile, comedian Aisling Bea took to Twitter to share the news that her show This Way Up had been pushed back in the scheduling.
In a tweet, she said: ‘Guys! Channel 4 is having a tech issue & #ThisWayUp will now start at 945 not 10, which is a kick in the b****s for anyone who planned to watch at 10 who doesn’t see this but listen… the universe is always testing us with its “humour”.’
