Virgin Australia has launched a massive flight sale offering fares from Sydney to Byron Bay for only $49 to celebrate NSW‘s ‘Freedom Day’.

The airline on Monday released 50,000 seats at the basement price on their Sydney to Byron Bay and Sydney to Coffs Harbour routes in a bid to kickstart regional travel after months of stay-at-home restrictions.

The discounted airfares will be available for travel between November 1, when regional travel is expected to be allowed again state-wide, and June 23, 2022.

Virgin’s sale will last from Monday until midnight on Wednesday – unless the fares are already sold out.

‘We’re so excited that Freedom Day is finally here and we’re even closer to getting the state back in the air,’ a Virgin Australia spokesman said.

‘To celebrate today’s milestone and to thank the vast majority of New South Wales residents for doing the right thing and rolling up their sleeves to get vaccinated.

‘We encourage all NSW residents to make the most of the $49 sale fares which we expect will sell out quickly.’

Premier Dominic Perrottet on Sunday heralded the easing of restrictions in Greater Sydney, which has been in lockdown for four months to contain the spread of the highly-contagious Delta variant.

Retail stores, cafes and pubs from Monday can re-open for fully-vaccinated customers as long as they use QR codes, enforce mask mandates and operate with density limits.

‘There is a sense of optimism out there with thousands of businesses across the state busy preparing to open their doors tomorrow. NSW you’ve earned this,’ Premier Dominic Perrottet said on Sunday.

‘As we re-open after more than 100 days we ask everyone to treat staff with kindness and respect when they ask you to check-in or see your vaccination certificate.’

Regional travel will resume in NSW at an 80 per cent double-dose vaccination rate, with that freedom expected for fully-vaccinated residents from October 25.
