VP-elect Harris visits D.C. Christmas tree decorated with pictures of her

Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff visited a Washington, D.C. restaurant Monday night that had dedicated its outdoor Christmas tree to her likeness.

Harris and Emhoff arrived at Italian restaurant Floriana, located on D.C.’s LGBTQ-friendly 17th Street N.W., to take a look at the tree that features Harris as its topper.

It also includes cut-outs of Harris’ running mate, President-elect Joe Biden, American flags, pairs of Biden’s favorite aviator sunglasses, mailboxes and first lady Melania Trump‘s ‘Be Best’ ornaments.

The soon-to-be second couple picked up take-out from the spot.

‘Our small businesses have really been hurting across the country so we want to come out and just celebrate them and encourage everyone to support our small business until we get through this,’ Harris said at the scene.

The Italian eatery has dressed up trees for prominent women in politics before.

Its 2018 version was an homage to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who was about to be sworn-in for a third term as speaker.

Like Harris taking in the ‘Kamala LA LA LA Tree,’ Pelosi also made the trek to the restaurant to see her ‘Pelostree.’

On Monday, Harris sported a black mask as she stood outside the Dupont Circle restaurant to chat with reporters about the upcoming January 6 ratification of the Electoral College count.

As a U.S. senator, Harris will be on Capitol Hill Wednesday when at least 13 Senate Republicans and more than 100 House Republicans try to contest the Electoral College vote counts.

These Republicans are following the lead of President Donald Trump who has made baseless accusations of widespread voter fraud for months.

On Sunday, Trump was caught on tape with Georgia’s Republican election officials saying that he wanted them to ‘find’ more votes in order to overturn that state’s count, which went for Biden.

Harris was asked if she thought Republicans’ stunt on Wednesday was an ‘attempted active coup.’

‘Let me just tell you something. We’re going to be inaugurated, period,’ she said.

Harris also said she and Biden were ‘committed to working with all leaders.’

‘Regardless of who they voted for to address issues like what we need to do to support our small businesses, and to get them back open,’ she said.

Echoing points made by Biden during his campaign stop in Atlanta Monday, Harris talked about the importance of getting vaccine distribution ironed out.

‘And I do know that in the conversations I’m having with small business owners, they never ask and I never ask them who they voted for in the election,’ she said. ‘It’s about keeping these businesses open understanding they are part of the economic and civic fabric of communities.’

Harris was greeted on 17th Street N.W. by cheers of ‘thank you Madame Vice President!’

She chatted with the restaurant owners and asked about their staff.

‘It’s a rough time,’ Harris said. ‘We’ve just got to get out the other end of it.’

She also made joked about Emhoff’s cooking attempts.

‘I learned to cook a few things’ during the pandemic, he said. ‘Set off the fire alarms a few times.’

Harris, on the other hand, is accomplished in the kitchen, releasing her cornbread stuffing recipe for Americans to try at Thanksgiving, and excitedly reacting to the news that the man who set up the Christmas tree had tried and loved her turkey brine recipe.
