Wayne Rooney’s BROTHER John scores an incredible FA Cup goal from inside his OWN HALF

Anything Wayne can do, John can do better! Rooney’s BROTHER scores an incredible FA Cup goal from inside his OWN HALF to emulate Manchester United and England legend’s two half-way line goals against West Ham

  • John Rooney, younger brother of Wayne, scored a sublime goal on Saturday
  • The midfielder scored within his own half in Stockport’s FA Cup win at Rochdale
  • It emulated Wayne’s Premier League strikes against West Ham in 2014 and 2017

Rooney by name. Rooney by nature. This weekend saw another stunning goal scored by this famous family – only this time it wasn’t by former Manchester United and England captain Wayne, but by his brother John.

John Rooney, who is five years younger, emulated his sibling and then some on Saturday by scoring inside his own half during Stockport County’s FA Cup first-round 2-1 win at Rochdale.

Winning possession inside his own half, the 29-year-old took two touches before getting his head up and firing a long-range strike that flew over 18-year-old Gavin Bazunu’s head and into the net.

It was a piece of instinctive brilliance from the midfielder, who turns 30 next month, and provided his side the platform to go on to win the match after seven minutes.

Rooney’s strike had the hallmarks of his big brother’s effort six years ago during Manchester United’s 2-0 Premier League win at West Ham in March 2014.

The striker scored both goals that afternoon at Upton Park but it was the former that was special.

Then, Ashley Young’s clearance found Rooney who rolled centre back James Tomkins before volleying a strike over goalkeeper Adrian’s head from just within the Hammers’ half.

The older Rooney has scored from inside his own since then, doing so for Everton against West Ham in the Premier League, ironically, in November 2017. Then he intercepted Joe Hart’s scrambled clearance and powered a first-time strike to complete his hat-trick in a 3-0 win.

He also achieved the feat in MLS for DC United against Orlando City in June 2019.

With Rooney’s current club Derby County entering the FA Cup in the second stage, the two brothers could come head-to-head if drawn together on Monday night.

If so, the goalkeepers best watch their lines!
