What to wear now! 4 must do trends for the new season

It may not feel like it but spring is just around the corner.

And now we’ve done our new year clear outs and said goodbye to party season, it’s time to embrace the new one.

So what are the new trends you should be rocking for the next few months? We’ve rounded up four of our favourites that’ll translate easily from the runway to real life so you can update your look and get ahead of the fashion game.

1. A step back in time

Get your hippy chick look on this season with retro inspired prints and clashing patterns.

Think warm rustic shades and abstract designs, plus stark oversized 70s style collars and floaty fabrics.

It was big trend on the runways at fashion week with labels like Louis Vuitton and Alberta Ferretti taking a bold and eye-catching step back in time.

If an all-over printed outfit feels too much then simply add a Bohemian blouse to flared jeans or a block colour knit to a patterned midi skirt.

2. The power of the polka dot

Like leopard print, stripes and florals the polka dot is always on trend.

But in the last few seasons this classic motif has been experiencing a resurgence among both high end and high street fashion mavens.

On the SS20 catwalks we saw spots both large and small, in black, white and blue at Altuzarra, Balmain, Max Mara and Carolina Herrera.

So embrace them with gusto this season rocking dresses, blouses, trousers and skirts all featuring this versatile print.

Polka dots work at the office, for off duty days, dates and weddings so you really can’t go wrong.

In fact, we suggest you go dotty this spring!

3. Let loose

We’ve been fans of wide leg trousers for a while now.

Skinnies will always have a place in our wardrobe (and our hearts) but the truth is that baggy trousers are so much more flattering.

They elongate the legs, helping to create the illusion of a tall and willowy silhouette and are also so much more comfortable to wear.

And for SS20 there were loads of loose fit looks stalking the runways with low slung wide suit trousers and cargo pants at Jacquemus and preppy high waist tailored pinstripes and neutrals at Michael Kors Collection.

We’ll be tucking in tanks, tees and shirts to some high rise wide legs this season, working them with trainers for day and high heel sandals for night.

Or go for a street style take with combat pants and a sweatshirt, ideal for lazy weekends when you still want to look fly.

4. The essential separate

If you invest in one item this season then make it a waistcoat.

This will instantly update your look without you having to buy a whole new wardrobe. Plus, you can wear it with lots of the clothes you already own. Thank you fashion gods!

There are two styles to try out. First is a smarter waistcoat that was seen at Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Max Mara which can be worn as part of a three piece trouser suit, under a blazer and over a shirt or tee.

The second is a more rock chick Boho waistcoat as seen on the catwalks of Celine and Saint Laurent.

Think Kate Moss and layer it over a peasant blouse and flared jeans, preferably accessorised with layered necklaces, slouchy boots and a slick of eyeliner.
