Who needs a snowmobile? Madcap moment thrill-seekers ride a BOAT through the snow in Ohio

  • A snow buggy dragging a boat with a skier in tow made for a bizarre sight
  • The group flouted Ohio’s Level 2 snow emergency, restricting non-urgent travel
  • Commenters praised ‘snow sailors’ as ‘very creative’, ‘ingenious’ and ‘legendary’
  • The scene took place in Middletown, Ohio, on February 3, during state of alert

This is the moment a group of friends ‘made the best of’ an ice storm by driving a convoy of vehicles through the snow – while dragging a boat along behind them.

The footage, recorded in Middletown, Ohio, took place during a Level 2 snow emergency in the Midwestern state on February 3.

In the 22-second clip, a snow buggy dragging a boat makes for a bizarre image on the deserted, icy road – as a person wearing skis hitches a ride on the back of the vessel.

A group of friends decided to ignore Level 2 snow emergency measures and tow a boat through the icy, perilous roads in Middletown, Ohio on February 3

Behind is another snow buggy and a four-by-four.

Commenting on their video, the uploader explained: ‘We are making the best of it having fun living our best lives!

‘I called my buddy to come by our house so my grandsons could see them and that’s what they did!

‘Like the video says…kick-ass friends who made my boys happy by seeing them having fun regardless of the icy Level 2 snow emergency.’

Under the state of Ohio’s three-level snow alert system, Level 2 emergencies require that citizens limit travel only to ‘necessary’ journeys – while Level 3, the highest state of alert, bans all vehicles from the road except first responders – with very few exceptions.

Temperatures reached lows of 23°F on February 3 when the group performed their snow-sailing stunt, with today’s temperature in Middletown, Ohio, forecast to fall as low as 9°F.

Commenters, however, did not criticise the thrill-seeking group for openly flouting emergency measures.

One person said: ‘Being very creative with what you have. Summer time is sea sailing. Winter time is SNOW SAILING.’

Another added: ‘Legendary. That’s American ingenuity at its finest.’

The snow emergency Level 2 was removed in Butler County two days later on February 5 as conditions abated.
