Fabio Silva scored his first two goals in English football as Wolves beat Doncaster Rovers 2-1 in the U21’s Papa John’s Trophy.

The 18-year-old striker was called into the squad on Tuesday following the absence of 14 players due to International duty.

Subsequently, Silva – who signed for £35million from Porto in September – helped the club progress to the knockout stages of the competition.

Silva asserted his dominance at the Keepmoat Stadium as he lined-up alongside the likes of Fernando Marcal, Ki-Jana Hoever and John Ruddy.

The striker, who was called a ‘generational talent’ by chairman Jeff Shi, took just 15 minutes to stamp his authority on the game.

Following his first goal of the evening, Silva was tightly marked by Doncaster’s 37-year-old centre-half Andy Butler.

However, Silva’s first-time shot in the 88th minute proved too much for Louis Jones and the Doncaster defence as the 18-year-old picked up his second goal of the evening.

Silva continued to threaten and provide Wolves with plenty more opportunities throughout the game.

The result sees the development side pick up their first victory in this season’s competition – having faced Oldham Athletic and Bradford City in their opening fixtures.

Having previously spoken about Silva’s abilities, Nuno said: ‘What I can tell you and that I’m sure of, Fabio is a huge talent, pure talent,’
