Wolves star Raul Jimenez set for a series of tests on skull injury next week

Raul Jimenez set for a series of tests on skull injury next week with Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo ‘totally confident’ that Mexican star will feature before the end of the season as striker begins ball work again

  • Raul Jimenez is set for a series of tests to see when he can play for Wolves again
  • The Mexican is working with the ball again after fracturing his skull in November
  • If he passes these tests he could return to work with his team-mates again
  • Wolves are growing confident that their star striker will feature this season

Raul Jimenez will undergo a series of tests next week to decide when he can play for Wolves again with the club increasingly confident he will feature before the end of the campaign.

The Mexican is working with the ball again less than three months after he suffered a fractured skull at Arsenal on November 29 but the forthcoming neurological examinations will indicate when he can resume full training.

Jimenez has yet to head the ball or have any contact but if he passes these tests with flying colours Wolves hope he will soon be able to work with his team-mates again, and then push for selection.

In the very best-case scenario, Jimenez could even train again next month, although that is far from certain.

It would be a remarkable recovery for Jimenez, whose career appeared in doubt when he clashed heads with David Luiz early in Wolves’ 2-1 win at Emirates Stadium, and spent more than a week in hospital.

Boss Nuno Espirito Santo said: ‘I’m totally confident he will play again this season, for sure. He’s been able to participate in the initial part of the training sessions, and just being with his team-mates is a big help for him and for us.

‘We are following the right protocols with no rush but we are delighted that now it’s getting better and better day by day. It’s fantastic for us.’
