A young woman has claimed she was left locked out of her home at 6am after an Uber driver demanded cash to return keys she dropped in his cab.

Alexandra Hall, 19, said she had been picked up outside Domino’s Pizza on London Road, Liverpool, on Monday morning after visiting a friend but dropped her keys in the taxi.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Alexandra said she immediately contacted Uber about the mishap, revealing: ‘[The driver] told me he would bring my keys back if I had cash because of where they were at the time and the time of day it was.’

The 19-year-old, who did not have any money on her at the time, said she felt ‘vulnerable’ and ‘panicked’ when she was left sitting on the side of the road, locked out of her home.

The driver took her to her home address in Anfield, but she dropped her house keys as she got out of the taxi.

Alexandra realised that she had dropped them as soon as she got out of the car, adding that she then chased the Uber down the road but didn’t think he had seen her

She reported what had happened to Uber and received a phone call minutes later, because she was unable to get into her home.

Alexandra said: ‘He told me he would bring my keys back if I had cash because of where they were at the time and the time of day it was.

‘I said I didn’t have cash and I’m not being funny but you’ve left a girl on her own by the side of a road at six o’clock in the morning.’

Alexandra added that she offered to give the driver money via bank transfer as she didn’t have any cash, but claimed the Uber driver said ‘it would have to be cash’ or she ‘wouldn’t get them back’.

She said that the driver said he would ‘drop them off at an Uber depot’ but when Alexandra called customer service, they told her that they didn’t have a depot.

Alexandra said: ‘I tried calling my housemate but she wouldn’t wake up. I then ended up calling my mum (who lives down south) and panicking because there were other people around and I was sitting on the side of a road.

Alexandra ended up contacting Uber directly and has since made a complaint into the company about the driver

‘I then called my friend and he had to call me another Uber to come back. If he hadn’t have answered the phone I genuinely wouldn’t have had anywhere else to go.’

She said she has made a complaint against the driver and said the experience made her feel ‘vulnerable’.

She added: ‘They kept saying they would take it higher, and then I got a notification on the app saying that the driver has identified that he’s got my item and with my permission they will give him my phone number to contact me to give them back. But he hasn’t done that.’

An Uber spokeswoman told Femail: ‘We are sorry that the user has had a poor experience, and we are working with the driver to ensure that the items are returned.’
