A man found himself in hot water after gifting his girlfriend a bidet for Valentine’s Day, leading her to assume that he think’s she is ‘dirty.’

The 28-year-old explained on Reddit‘s ‘Am I the A**hole‘ forum that he bought the unusual gift for his 24-year-old girlfriend because his mother got him a bidet for Christmas and it ‘changed [his] life.’

‘So for Valentine’s Day I got my girl the typical flowers and chocolate, a necklace, and… a bidet,’ he wrote. ‘I honestly thought it was a good idea, I legitimately thought she’d love it.’

True love? A Reddit user reveals he got into a fight with his girlfriend after he gave her a bidet for Valentine’s Day, but she ended up loving the unusual gift after she tried it out

He pointed out that his mom also got his sister a bidet, and ‘she loves her.’ He also noted that he bought his girlfriend a ‘really good one’ and had already set it up at her place. However, despite his best intentions, his gift idea backfired.

‘She was f*****g P****D when she saw I got it for her,’ he admitted. ‘She said that I was insinuating that she was dirty, and that I was passively aggressively telling her she needed to clean herself better.’

‘My girlfriend is a meticulously clean person. I’ve never had any complaints about how she grooms herself, she always smells great and is waxed and clean everywhere,’ he added. ‘I honestly just wanted to share the joy my bidet brought me with her.’

Not exactly romantic: Many Reddit users agreed that it was his timing of the gift that was really the issue, but they were happy it ended up working out for him

Not exactly romantic: Many Reddit users agreed that it was his timing of the gift that was really the issue, but they were happy it ended up working out for him

The man ended the post by asking if he had made a ‘bad judgment call,’ and while most agreed that he did, they explained it was really more of a timing issue than the gift itself.

‘You got her an a** cleaner for what is considered the most romantic day of the year,’ one person commented, while another added: ‘It’s a good gift, particularly if it’s something she wanted, just not the right time.’

The Reddit user later shared an update on his relationship status, revealing that his girlfriend had tried out her new bidet that morning and is a fan.

‘My girlfriend and I are both loving reading all of these comments,’ he said. ‘She loves the gift and has since apologized for freaking out and making a snap judgment.’

People were happy to hear that it worked out between them, with one person joking: ‘All’s well that rear-ends well.’
