A Woolworths shopper has tested out her new temporary barcode tattoo by attempting to scan herself at the checkout – and it worked.

Emilia Lau, a film producer from Brisbane, posted a video of herself testing the fake inking on her @emz_imagery TikTok account, with the marking on her wrist featuring the words ‘Made in Australia’.

She then tested it out at the self-serve checkouts at Woolworths Metro Kelvin Grove in Brisbane, with much success.

Ms Lau and a friend try a number of machines to see whether her arm will scan, until finally one emits a beep.

‘Invalid. Staff assistance,’ Ms Lau confirmed that it said.

‘Some [tattoo] artists are so sick of doing barcode tattoos that they make it so it scans for something ridiculous,’ one person noted.

‘Ha ha, I had no idea! I got that for fun but you made me want to!’ Ms Lau replied.
