A fan unsuccessfully tried to scale the left-field wall to escape security after invading the field during the Philadelphia Phillies‘ loss to the Houston Astros Thursday night.

The Astros clinched a 3-2 win in Game 5 to head home with the lead in the World Series and move just one game away from clinching the championship.

At the top of the sixth inning, a fan wearing a red and blue Chase Utley jersey ran out on to the field and interrupted play.

He raced across the field and successfully managed to evade security staff who chased after him until he hit a wall – quite literally.

He attempted to scale the left-field wall but his valiant efforts were unsuccessful. He managed to get a grip on the top of the wall but could not pull himself up before dropping back to the field .

After his failed attempt, security quickly pounced on him, tackling him to the ground. Two Philadelphia police officers ran to the scene and the fan was escorted off the field with his hands behind his back.

The incident took place during a crucial inning for the Phillies and fans at the ball park began chanting ‘a**hole’ in response.

If the fan was in fact a Phillies fan, as his jersey would indicate, he hindered rather helped his team.

The Phillies were in the field with Jose Alvarado, who struggled in Game 4, on the mound pitching to Alex Bregman to keep their deficit at 2-1.

The incident forced Alvarado to take a moment and reset before pitching to Bregman.

The Astros went on to defeat the Phillies 3-2 in Game 5 and take a 3-2 lead in the World Series.

The Astros head home with the lead in the best-of-seven series, needing to win on Saturday or on Sunday (if necessary) to claim the championship.
