You’ve been washing broccoli wrong – viral video shows ‘correct’ way to prepare your vegetables

A TikTok user has gone viral after revealing the ‘correct’ way to wash broccoli.

Sidney Raz, 34, from Los Angeles has amassed over 3.9m followers on the video-sharing platform by sharing everyday tips he only discovered in his thirties

Earlier this month, the social media star posted a video highlighting the mistake had been making when rinsing his vegetables.

Sidney said: ‘Here’s something I didn’t know until I was in my 30s.

The ‘wrong’ way to wash broccoli: Sidney filmed himself rinsing the vegetable following his usual method in a viral video which has amassed almost 140,000 likes

‘Broccoli should be rinsed from the bottom?’

At first, Sidney seemed unconvinced and filmed himself running water from his kitchen tap directly onto the head of the broccoli as usual.

This method causes the water to go all over the sides while also not efficiently rinsing the stalk.

But when he turned it on its head, the water drained easily through the broccoli florets with far less wastage.

The clip – which has amassed over 1.4m views – ends with Sidney shooting the camera an exasperated look as it dawns on him that he’s been washing his broccoli ‘incorrectly’ for years.

Using the hashtag #todayilearned, he then captioned the video: ‘Sure, it makes sense now that I do it.’

Although some argued that it was ‘common sense’, the clip racked up over 140,000 ‘likes’ from people who were grateful for the guidance.

One viewer replied: ‘Well now that’s something I didn’t know until I was in my 60s! Thanks for the tip.’

Another added: ‘I don’t even want to admit how much I learn from your videos.’

Meanwhile, a third said: ‘[I’m] 43-years-old, a heavy broccoli eater. Just learned it now.’
