Zara divides shoppers as they embrace ‘covid chic’ with the release of their new QUILTED trolley

Granny chic! Zara padded shopping trolley that sold out in Spain in 24 hours hits UK stores for £59.99 – as some joke it’s ‘perfect for stockpiling’

  • Zara is dividing shoppers after listing quilted trolleys on their website for £59.95
  • According to Grazia, the bags proved popular in Spain and sold out in 24 hours
  • Twitter users have begun thanking the brand for making trolleys acceptable

Juggling bulging shopping bags is always a challenge, however a new bag design could make life easier.

Zara has divided shoppers with the release of its £59.95 quilted personal shopping trolleys in the UK, made almost entirely from polyester, in autumnal colours khaki and grey.

According to Grazia, the accessories – which are usually more popualr with older people – were a huge hit in Spain, selling out within 24 hours of launch.

However, some customers aren’t convinced by the unusual design and have taken to Twitter to mock the brand.

A description for the products on Zara’s website reveals that the trollies come with zip pockets at the front and back, as well as side pockets with adjustable drawstrings.

They also have a snap-button flap for securely fastening pockets and two wheels, ensuring shopping can be easily carried with the weight evenly distributed.

The brand advises against attempts to clean the bag in the washing machine, however the quilted material should require minimal care.

The design is similar to conventional padded jackets that are popular around this time of year and encourages shoppers to embrace sustainability, by bringing their own reusable bags when making in-store purchases.

Impressed with the announcement, one social media user wrote: ‘Loving the fact that Zara is thoroughly embracing the COVID chic and shamelessly capitalizing on the pandemic by bring back the granny trolley just in time for stockpiling’

Another said: ‘Zara what is going on, is it now acceptable for me to use a trolley for my shopping?’

A third added: ‘I think there is a real danger I’d have some furry stowaways if I got one of these and they might make an appearance in the green grocer.’

However others said they’re not prepared to be seen using a trolley, even if they’re now deemed fashionable.

‘Very droll, PSA: I am never getting one of these, no matter how stylish or convenient,’ wrote one.
