Grandparents in the UK have less money spent on them at Christmas than the family pet, according to a survey.

A poll of 2,000 Britons found that the average person spends just £20.02 on each grandparent compared with £27.34 on a pet.

The highest spending was on children under 16, at £129.79, partners, £120.51, children over 16, £105.99, mums, £63.51, dads, £51.81, and siblings, £47.46.

 It is estimated that Britons will spent a total of £33 billion on Christmas gifts this year.

Salman Haqqi, of money.co.uk which carried out the poll, urged people to budget. ‘With high expectations to meet, it’s easy to fall into debt,’ he added.
