Aberdeen 1-2 Rangers: Alfredo Morelos scores twice as Scottish Premiership leaders survive scare after Matty Kennedy’s second-half goal to extend gap at top to 22 points

  • Runaway leaders Rangers beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday
  • Forward Alfredo Morelos scored in either half as the visitors won 2-1 at Pittodrie
  • Matty Kennedy slid in a reply midway through the second half for the home side
  • James Tavernier spurned a first-half spot kick after Ryan Hedges was dismissed

Alfredo Morelos scored in either half as Rangers overcame an early penalty miss by James Tavernier to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 22 points on Sunday.

The striker turned smartly to hit the opener in the 34th minute before again finding a neat finish to double his side’s lead five minutes after the break at Pittodrie.

James Tavernier had missed a penalty five minutes before Rangers went ahead after Ryan Hedges was sent off for clipping Morelos when he was through on goal.

Matty Kennedy gave Aberdeen late hope but their seven-match unbeaten league run came to an end as they lost for the first time since their defeat at Rangers in November.
