Al Michaels slammed for comments implying Taylor Swift’s music is only popular for teenage girls

Al Michaels’ comments implying Taylor Swift’s music is only popular among teenage girls on NFL’s Thursday Night Football are slammed on social media

Al Michaels has landed himself in the cross hairs of Taylor Swift fans on social media following his comments on NFL’s Thursday Night Football broadcast.

Michaels, appearing on the Amazon coverage, seemingly implied that Swift was only popular among teenage girls following an announcement regarding the singer’s new album.

‘You have four sons, if you had a daughter she would be over the moon,’ Michael told Kirk Herbstreit in the booth.

‘I have a granddaughter and she’s completely over the moon right now… nobody more popular among the teenage girl group than Taylor Swift.’

Michaels comments came after an advertisement was aired for Swift’s new album ‘Midnights’ that was being released at midnight.

The 32-year-old singer has won 11 Grammys over the course of her musical career. The majority of Swift’s music has been centered around the pain of relationships, growing up and experiencing life.

Fans weren’t the only ones upset with Michaels’ comments as Pro Football Talk’s Michael Smith chimed in as well.

‘The NFL wants to be in business with Taylor Swift in part because she appeals to a demographic that the NFL would like to reach more, but Al Michaels’ assumption that Kirk Herbstreit’s kids don’t like Taylor Swift because he has sons was kinda dumb,’ Smith tweeted.

Fan reaction seemed to be along a very similar line of thinking with one fan tweeting, ‘Hearing Al Michaels insinuate that boys can’t be excited for new Taylor Swift and shaking my head the whole time to show that I don’t agree with it.’

Another Tweet read: ‘All respect to Al Michaels, but dudes can be Taylor Swift fans, too.’

One more added: ‘I am secure enough in my manhood to admit I am PUMPED for Taylor Swift’s new album. Gonna be blasting Midnights on repeat.’
