Aldi launches food parcel delivery service for £24.99 a box

Aldi launches online £25 food parcel containing 22 items including UHT milk, toilet paper, bread rolls and tea and coffee for delivery to ‘vulnerable shoppers’

  • Aldi’s food parcels will be sold via its website from Friday 17 April
  • It will mark the first time Aldi has ever sold ambient food on its website
  • Move follows the likes of Morrisons and M&S who have also launched parcels

Aldi will start selling grocery parcels online from tomorrow for delivery to households who are struggling to get to the shops.

The German-owned discount supermarket will be selling the hampers, which contain essentials like soup, rolls, UHT milk and toilet rolls (see full list below), for £24.99.

Purchases will be limited to one per customer and are being aimed at people ‘extremely vulnerable’ to Covid-19 who are unable to shop in person.

New service: Aldi will start selling grocery parcels for the first time in its history from Friday 17 April

Demand for Aldi’s food parcels looks set to be high, with online shoppers still struggling to get delivery slots for most supermarkets, even when they have been deemed ‘extremely vulnerable’ to coronavirus.

Bricks-and-mortar supermarkets, including Aldi, have already launched a string of measures to ensure shoppers and staff can, in theory, practice adequate social distancing.

Measures have also been put in place to give the elderly and vulnerable, as well as NHS and care workers, exclusive shopping hours to try and ensure they can shop in safety.

Since 14 April, Aldi extended its priority shopping hours to include social care workers, first responders and St John’s Ambulance crew, among a number of others.

For its in-store services, Aldi has extended its opening hours until 10pm from Monday to Saturday, while for internet orders for products like wine, which it sold via online before the pandemic, delivery times have been extended to up to 10 days.

Aldi’s move to sell groceries online has come shortly after Morrisons and Marks & Spencer started selling similar food parcels.

Parcels of essentials at Morrisons start at £30, while a box of vegetables from M&S costs £15 and a fuller box of esentials costs £35.
