‘It looks worse than Jersey Shore!’ American Married At First Sight fans are horrified by the ‘plastic and trashy’ Aussie cast as they threaten to boycott the show when it airs in the States

The most recent season of Australia’s Married At First Sight is set to air in America on May 27.

And while the series has been a ratings blockbuster at home, American viewers are already threatening to boycott the Aussie version of the series for being ‘too trashy’.

After a promotional trailer for the season was released, hundreds of American MAFS fans flooded social media with negative comments about the show.

‘The trailers for Australia look awful!’ American Married At First Sight fans have vowed not to watch the Australian version of the show when it premieres in the States on May 27

‘The trailers for Australia look awful. Looks like one of those Real Housewives shows with everybody fighting. I’ll pass,’ said another.

Dozens of viewers remarked that the season looked ‘fake and scripted’, with many pointing out that it lacked the authenticity of the American version.

‘No thanks. The American show has lost it’s sincerity and focus over the past couple of seasons. This looks worse. Too much scripted drama. Pass,’ wrote one.

‘I watched the whole show mostly through Facebook clips and it was awful. All couples were mismatched, so much scripting, complaints after the show ended. But if you’re into trash TV drama, go for it,’ commented another.

‘I saw the previews for this show and it just looks like a lot of trash and drama. Not interested.’

Married At First Sight U.S. is currently the highest rated show on America’s Lifetime network, spawning six spin-off shows and pulling in millions of viewers each week.

Unlike the Australian counterpart, the MAFS U.S. weddings are legally binding.

The series doesn’t contain any dramatic dinner parties and committment ceremonies, and each season the participents are based in the same city to ensure that distance won’t be an issue in their marriage.

The show’s relationship experts put more effort into matching participents correctly, and even personally visit their homes to get a sense of their personality and lifestyle before matching them with a partner.

Last week, Lifetime announced that Married At First Sight Australia would premiere on their network on May 27.

When the season airs, American viewers will be subjected to outrageous drama including multiple cheating scandals and screaming fights between the couples.

They’ll also see the infamous toothbrush scandal, in which David Cannon used his ‘wife’ Hayley Vernon’s toothbrush to scrub faeces off the toilet bowl.
