The Liverpool full-back was seen approaching the official, who then appeared to raise his arm towards the defender.

Liverpool players surrounded referee Paul Tierney following the incident, with Robertson receiving a yellow card.

‘I think the linesman throws an elbow,’ said Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports commentary, with touchline reporter Geoff Shreeves confirming Liverpool players had claimed Robertson had been elbowed by the official.

After conceding two early goals, the Reds scored via Mo Salah just before half-time and then levelled through Roberto Firmino late on to draw 2-2 in a thriller at Anfield.

‘Andy Robertson was absolutely apoplectic, Stunned even,’ Shreeves said.

‘He said: “He’s just elbowed me in the throat. The linesman has elbowed me in the throat”.

‘Jordan Henderson led the remonstrations with referee Paul Tierney, then they got taken away. Extraordinary scenes.’

Roy Keane and Gary Neville were asked whether they had seen anything like the incident.

‘No not really. Does he grab the linesman first? I’m not sure,’ Keane said. ‘Robertson’s complaining, he should be more worried about his defending.

‘I’ve watched him a number of times. He’s a big baby. That’s what that guy is. Just get on with the game, and concentrate on your defending.’

Neville added ‘I’ve never seen an official raise an elbow towards a player. I think he’ll be in a lot of trouble when the game ends. We’ve got a brilliant second half to look forward to.’

Arsenal missed the opportunity to restore an eight point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
