Racing fans have called for a man who threw his drink at horses to be issued a lifetime ban – TV cameras picked up the punter flinging his drink in a plastic cup towards the track on Sunday

The man was spotted on the Sky Sports Racing channel shortly after Danny Muscutt had won a Class 5 handicap at 3.06pm BST on the 9-2 favourite Captain Kane.

Horses were still running when he flung his drink towards the track – thankfully falling short of the horses and jockeys zooming past – but with what appeared to be beer falling onto the man and woman in front of him.

A clip of the footage was posted on social media, with racing aficionados quickly responding angrily.

One said: ‘What a w****r. Hope they get him thrown out ASAP.’

And racing aficionados quickly took to Twitter to criticise the man's actions at Yarmouth

Another added: ‘Ban him from every racecourse in the country,’ with a third agreeing: ‘Should be banned for life.’

A different Twitter user posted: ‘Kick him out! Should be fined and never allowed on a racecourse again.’

Another concluded: ‘Considering how many race fans complain about younger racegoers and their drinking – this gives the lie to that generalisation. What an unthinking, utterly stupid thing to do.’

A spokesperson for the Arena Racing Company, who managed Yarmouth racecourse, said: ‘The Racecourse team were aware of the issue, and security looked to identify the man in question within the crowd throughout the afternoon.

‘Suffice to say, behaviour such as this is not acceptable and anyone acting as such will not be welcome at any ARC venue in the future.’
