Annastacia Palaszczuk is slammed over her ‘childish and rude’ rift with Gladys Berejiklian – and is told to ‘grow up’

  • 2GB’s Ben Fordham has called Annastacia Palaszczuk a ‘brat’ over the issue
  • Ms Berejiklian claims she sent her northern counterpart text but was ignored
  • Queensland has shut its border to NSW amid COVID-19 concerns for months

Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has been slammed as ‘childish and rude’ over a growing feud with New South Wales premier Gladys Berejiklian.

Ms Berejiklian texted the newly re-elected Ms Palaszczuk following her win at the polls on Saturday to open a dialogue about border restrictions but did not receive a response for three days.

Only after her state won the first State of Origin clash on Wednesday night did Ms Palaszczuk respond with a text reportedly along the lines of ‘Queenslander, great game’.

‘Annastacia Palaszczuk needs to grow up,’ 2GB’s Ben Fordham said.

‘While people in Sydney can’t see their families in Brisbane that’s the best that Annastacia could come up with – a smart-ass response about a football game.

‘She’s a child and she’s looking like a brat.’

Fordham claimed Ms Palaszczuk was showing little respect for New South Wales residents forced to endure extended border closures as Queensland went into a state election.

After keeping the border shut to New South Wales for months because of COVID-19 concerns, the Queensland premier in October allowed a travel bubble of certain areas in northern NSW, such as Byron Bay, to be exempt.

She has still given no indication when the Queensland border will open to 5million people in the Sydney metropolitan area, despite almost non-existent coronavirus case numbers.

The Queensland premier said she may even shut the border to NSW completely again if the state opens its borders with Victoria.

The Sunshine State recorded zero COVID-19 infections cases on Wednesday, tallying 56 days without community transmission of the virus.

When quizzed about the possibility of a back-flip if NSW does open its border to Victorians, a spokeswoman from Queensland Health said a decision will be made depending on the number of cases nationwide.

‘We know this pandemic is not over, these decisions will continue to be made as our health response continues and we continue to see new cases across the nation,’ the spokeswoman told The Courier Mail
