An Australian shopper has stumbled upon a retro Woolworths that looks like it hasn’t been updated for decades.

The Sydneysider shared images of the Eastwood supermarket with the old fit out to popular Facebook group Old Shops Australia surprising and delighting hundreds of nostalgic members.

There was not a self-serve checkout in sight while the old Woolworths logo welcomed customers to the store 17km north-west of Sydney‘s city centre.

A Sydney shopper has found what he called the ‘least updated’ Woolworths store complete with the original logo, old checkouts and retro flooring

‘This is by far the least updated Woolies I’ve come across in Sydney,’ the shopper wrote in the post.

He suspected the fridges and freezers had not been updated in years while the floors had the old-fashioned checkered pattern and the signage for the Deli and Bakery departments were uncharacteristically plain.

Now most Woolworths stores have a sleek design, a darker colour scheme, self-serve registers, digital screens, modern operating systems and the new ‘apple skin’ logo.

Many members said the images of the outdated store brought back many memories.

‘Oh memories!! Mum used to do the weekly groceries there when I was little in the nineties. Doesn’t look like its changed much at all!’ one woman said.

‘Takes me back to when I worked at Woolies 23 years ago … Great nostalgia, the staff just need white shirts with ties,’ said another.

‘Nothing changed…I worked there 20 years ago,’ a third added.

Someone said the store looked like a ‘step back in time’ while another called it the ‘Eastwood time capsule’.

‘Did they keep the prices from decades ago?’ joked one shopper.

‘Better check the ‘Use By’ dates. Some items on the shelves may be collectors items by now!’ laughed a second and a third replied: ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Love it.’

‘This shop is super interesting. They’ve renovated the ancient Woolies signage, yet kept the layout,’ one woman pointed out.

‘I love ‘living museums’ like this, the managers are probably super passionate about balancing old/new.’

One man had a theory as to why the store had remained untouched for so long.

‘I’m gonna take a punt and say this shopping centre is due to be knocked down or Woolies will be out for some other reason quite soon,’ he guessed.
