Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has lambasted his players following the shock 2-1 defeat to Cadiz.

Alvaro Negredo scored the winning goal as Barcelona were beaten, with the result leaving Koeman’s side in seventh place in LaLiga and just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Koeman believes that the attitude of his players was to blame for the defeat and the Dutchman was left astounded at the manner in which Negredo’s goal was conceded.

As reported by Marca, Koeman said: ‘The defeat is difficult to explain,’ Koeman said after the game.

‘We’ve come here after some good games, but the first half wasn’t good. We were better in the second half, but the way in which we lost was incredible. We lost due to an unexpected mistake that you cannot make. It came from not being focused. The attitude wasn’t good tonight, and not just from the defenders.

‘It’s very hard to explain some of the goals that we’ve conceded. I think it might be because of a lack of concentration. We lack aggression without the ball. That might be why we concede. It’s not easy to explain that second goal.’

Alvaro Gimenez had given Cadiz an early lead, with an own goal from Alcala seeing Barcelona equalise. However, they eventually fell to a defeat and have much work to do as they look to improve their position in the table.

There is much time for Barcelona to turn matters around and they do have a game in hand on many of the sides around them, but Koeman will have been alarmed by the performance of his team.

Barcelona, who have already qualified for the knockout stages, are in Champions League action on Tuesday when they host Juventus.

Following that they will be attempting to return to winning ways in LaLiga with a home game against Levante.
