‘Hang on, I’m in trouble’: Beau Ryan accidentally caught up in police investigation after tagging himself in a coronavirus hotspot on Instagram

Beau Ryan has revealed he suffered an unfortunate run-in with the police while filming The Amazing Race last year.

Speaking to Confidential on Tuesday, the former NRL star, 35, recalled the moment when police approached him while he was eating lunch at a restaurant in Townsville in-between filming.

‘I initially thought [the police] were going to card me because I look so young, but after they suggested we step outside to talk somewhere private, I thought, ‘hang on I am in trouble.’

Beau soon realised that the reason for the police investigation was because he’d recently tagged himself in a coronavirus hotspot on Instagram.

The father-of-two had recently uploaded a post while he was in Adelaide filming scenes for The Amazing Race, but decided to geo-tag his location as Bankstown, Sydney, to preserve secrecy surrounding the Channel 10 production.

Unfortunately, Beau didn’t realise Bankstown had been declared a coronavirus hotspot at the time.

‘Once I explained to [the police] that I had actually been in Queensland at the time but tagged Bankstown to throw people off the scent that we were filming The Amazing Race Australia up there, they were fine and even asked for a photo with me,’ Beau explained.

It comes after Beau revealed on Instagram that he was struggling to complete his two-week quarantine before filming the show last year.

‘I’m gonna be straight up: quarantine’s pretty hard. Isolation, quarantine, whatever you want to call it,’ he said while lying shirtless in bed.

‘Being stuck in a room for two weeks by yourself, most people lose the plot… I don’t’.

Debuting on Monday night, The Amazing Race Australia sees 28 travelers bulldoze their way through challenges while vying for the grand prize of $250,000.

The show is usually filmed in locations all around the world, but due to the pandemic, this season was filmed entirely in Australia.
